  • Use the word (not prefix) ĉi with ti- words to refer to a nearer thing, i.e. turn “that” into “this”.
  • tiel is often preferred over tiom, even for intensity.
  • kelk- (usually as kelkaj) is commonly used to mean “some” for quantifiable nouns, and iom da for unquantifiable e.g. “some water” = iom da akvo
  • iom might not refer to a large amount, even though it has the vague meaning of “some”.
  • tiel … kiel is the idiom “as … as”, as in, “as (adj) as (noun)”. I can’t directly translate it because it doesn’t make sense in English that way.
