It's a big deal that Obama is black because it shows how far America has really come since federation, since the civil war and since the 60s. He's not being elected because he's black, and no one is judging him by the colour of the skin over the content of his character (unless you can maybe provide some links of people doign this in the media or elsewhere). Yes, black people have had equal rights for decades now -- but Obama's election demonstrates that America has truly left behind the disgusting racism that was once prevalent. If Obama had run in 1960 there is no way he would've won because there would still be a large amount of racists all over the country. Thank god that has died out.
