First Black President? I Don’t Care

Really, when it boils down to it, the people who make a big deal about the election of the first “African-American” president are the real racists – because they are making an issue out of the fact that there hasn’t been one before … an issue over the color of his skin. Just goes to show that there are still a whole lot of people that still haven’t started living by Dr. King’s wise words – that a man be judged not by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character.

And Obama’s character is where I take issue.

Hi Garrett, I disagree with you.

It’s a big deal that Obama is black because it shows how far America has really come since federation, since the civil war and since the 60s. He’s not being elected because he’s black, and no one is judging him by the colour of the skin over the content of his character (unless you can maybe provide some links of people doign this in the media or elsewhere).

Yes, black people have had equal rights for decades now — but Obama’s election demonstrates that America has truly left behind the disgusting racism that was once prevalent. If Obama had run in 1960 there is no way he would’ve won because there would still be a large amount of racists all over the country. Thank god that has died out.

Would there be something wrong with celebrating the first female president either?

yeah, i thought about that, and it is a good thing. i guess once we as a country have finished shouting “first!!!!”, we can treat it like the non-issue it really is.

and no, nothing would be wrong about celebrating the first female president either – but i wouldn’t be celebrating because i don’t really care about gender or race – just the person’s standards.

btw, i really enjoyed reading about your “ubuntu-girlfriend experiment”.
